Early Friday morning, a vehicle struck a fire hydrant in Chula Vista. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened at the Chula Vista mall parking lot at about 4:30 a.m. Very little information about this incident has been released, but initial reports indicate that first responders found a white BMW sedan with front end damage just beyond a sheared-off fire hydrant. The fire hydrant caused a geyser right beside the AMC Theatres at Otay Ranch Town Center.

The driver initially tried to flee the scene, but law enforcement officers were able to apprehend that person. There were two other passengers in the car, but they fled the scene and have not been located. Crews had to shut water off in the area until about 5:15 a.m. This wreck could still be under investigation with local law enforcement officials.
