On Monday evening, a police chase that started in Buellton culminated with a sideswiped van and an arrest on Santa Barbara’s Westside. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the high-speed chase happened on Highway 101. Initial reports indicate that the chase reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. During the chase, the vehicle being pursued engaged in unsafe passing on the right shoulder and other unsafe actions.

The driver exited at Mission Street and sideswiped a van near the end of the off ramp. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Law enforcement officers were able to apprehend the suspect. That person was charged with auto theft, evading a police officer, driving under influence of drugs, hit and run and driving without a license.
