CHP Urging Drivers to Slow Down in Bad Weather

With stormy weather on the horizon, officials with the California Highway Patrol are urging drivers to slow down on San Diego roadways. With significant rainfall being projected in the area, commuters are being reminded to adjust their speeds to the condition of the roadways. A significant amount of rain is being predicted for Thursday, and there’s likely to be more over the weekend. The CHP has two main tips for motorists who have to brave bad weather. First, give yourself plenty of time to get where you’re going. Second, take it slow.

Give Yourself Extra Time

If poor weather conditions are predicted in your area, prepare for a lengthy commute. Add in some additional time to get where you’re going. The last thing you want to do is be in a time crunch, because you didn’t allow for enough time to safely get to your destination. Lots of rain can lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility. There could also be delays from wrecks, so make sure you have plenty of time to get to work, school or wherever you need to be.

Take it Slow in Wet Weather

In addition to budgeting extra time for your commute, make sure you’re taking it slow during wet weather conditions. Sometimes, even posted speed limits are too fast. Adjust your speed to the conditions of the roadway. If the roads are super wet, slow down. If visibility is poor, slow down. Take your time, and since you’ve budgeted extra time to get where you’re going, you don’t have to worry about being late. Take the time it takes to get to your destination safely.
