Consumer Alert on Chrysler Pacifica Minivans

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a Consumer Alert about a repair available for certain recalled Chrysler Pacifica Minivans. According to Chrysler, recalled model year 2017-2018 Pacifica plug-in hybrid electric minivans now have a repair available. In February, the automaker recalled these vehicles due to a risk of fire, even if the vehicle is turned off. They issued a firm “park outside” order for anybody with these vehicles. They didn’t have a full repair available at the time, but they do now.

Continue to Park Recalled Chrysler Pacificas Outside Until Repaired

As of October 11, Chrysler is mailing letters to impacted Pacifica owners about the update. If you have one of these recalled minivans, you will be able to contact your local Chrysler dealer to schedule a free repair. The repair updates the high-voltage battery pack control module software. During this repair, a technician will also inspect, and if necessary, replace the entire battery pack assembly.

At this time, Chrysler is still urging consumers to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until they are able to get the repair done. It doesn't matter if the vehicle is turned off, it is still at risk for catching fire. It’s also important that owners not charge these vehicles. These minivans are at risk of fire, even when parked and even when turned off.

Is Your Vehicle Being Recalled?

If you think your vehicle may be impacted by a recall, but you haven’t received a letter, you can use the NHTSA’s online VIN Lookup Tool. This quick search engine just takes a minute. All you need is your vehicle’s 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find the VIN on your car’s registration card, insurance card or on the lower left area of your windshield. The NHTSA recommends checking all of your vehicles for recalls at least twice a year.
