Early Saturday morning, a one-vehicle crash in Santa Barbara knocked out power for a large portion of residential customers in the San Roque area. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, a northbound Honda Civic struck a utility pole on West Alamar Avenue at about 2:50 a.m. The crash happened near the intersection with Chapala Street. The driver fled the scene, and as of late Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been made.
Although crews were working to repair the pole and the damaged lines, power was expected to be out for some residents until Sunday night. With power to nearby traffic lights out for hours, some residents were concerned about drivers failing to stop and exercise caution and safety at intersections. This wreck is still under investigation with local law enforcement authorities.
