CTC Allocates $3 Billion for Transportation Infrastructure

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently issued a press release about the State of California allocating more than $3 billion for transportation infrastructure. This funding is being allocated through the California Transportation Commission (CTC), and includes $1.3 billion in funding from the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

This is an effort to help support local projects and to protect local roads and bridges from extreme weather and natural disasters. Additionally, Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, accounts for more than $930 million in total funding. The funding will go towards projects across the state, and there will be several local projects in San Diego and throughout Southern California.

San Diego Transportation Infrastructure Projects

According to Caltrans, a total of $64.66 million is being directly invested into District 11’s region, which includes San Diego and Imperial Counties. This funding will be used on a variety of different projects including installing Americans with Disability Act (ADA) pedestrian curb ramps and pedestrian signals, and replacing sidewalks and traffic signals in the City of San Diego.

There will also be money for commercial vehicle weigh stations on Interstate 5 and funding for various other vehicle transportation infrastructure and active forms of transportation projects in and around San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Los Angeles Transportation Infrastructure Projects

Transportation infrastructure projects in and around Los Angeles will include improvements to the State Route 57/60 confluence choke point, which will help to relieve heavy traffic in that area. There will also be funding for construction of auxiliary lanes and intersection improvements in a number of different areas.

Money will also be going towards metro red and purple line core capacity improvements which will help to provide more frequent rail service to users. In addition to several other projects in Los Angeles, funding will also go towards improving and modifying intersections, sidewalks, curb ramps and pedestrian crossings in accordance with the ADA.
