Last Tuesday, a cyclist was killed in a collision with a motor vehicle in Fallbrook. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened in the northbound section of Old Highway 395, just south of Pala Mesa Drive. Initial reports indicate that the 19-year-old driver veered off of the roadway. Her SUV struck a 59-year-old man who was riding his bicycle on the right shoulder of the highway. The cyclist did not survive his injuries.
Although very little information has been released about this fatal collision, we do know that the driver, Surem Areli Garcia, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter. This fatal incident is likely still under investigation with law enforcement authorities.
