Dulzura Car Crash on State Route 94 – Saturday, February 09, 2013
EAST COUNTY — After a head-on crash in Dulzura on Saturday, three people where injured and one died along state Route 94.
The California Highway Patrol reported that at about 5:35 p.m., just east of Community Building Road, a Ford Ranger pickup truck and a Nissan Sentra collided with each other.
Juan Maneul Castro, 69-years old, was the driver of the Nissan Sentra who passed away at the scene of the accident according to The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Mr. Castro had been wearing his seatbelt.
Mr. Castro was traveling with his wife, who was severely injured. Castro’s wife had to be airlifted to UC San Diego Medical Center according to Cal Fire.
Also in the car was a second passenger who along with the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup truck, Anthony Montello, had to be rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment, officials said.
Route 94 was blocked in both directions from Otay Lakes Road and State Route 188 by California Highway Patrol officers. The delay lasted until about 9:30 p.m. allowing for an investigation of the accident.
