On Monday morning, a hit-and-run driver near Vandenberg Air Force Base fatally struck a pedestrian. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened sometime around 5:30 a.m., in the southbound lanes of Highway 1, near the main gate for the base. Very little information about the incident has been released, but initial reports indicate that crews and first responders were called to the scene on Highway 1 near Timber Lane, just after 5:30 a.m.

Although the identity of the pedestrian hasn’t been released, pending family notification, base officials confirmed that it was a local airman. There has been no word on whether or not the hit-and-run driver has been located and apprehended. This case is still under investigation.
