NHTSA Announces 2023 Vehicles for 5-Star Safety Tests

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a press release announcing the 2023 vehicles to be included in the new-and-improved 5-Star Safety Ratings tests. According to the NHTSA, the vehicles included represent approximately 86 percent of the new vehicle fleet. This selection is a broad variety of vehicles that will help consumers to make decisions on which new vehicles best fit their needs.

Under the NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program, vehicles are crash tested and rated on their performance in areas like how well they protect occupants in frontal, side and rollover crashes. The data is then used to rate each vehicle from one to five stars, with five stars being the highest rating available.

Consumer Data and Pushing Safety Forward With Automakers

The rating system isn’t just about providing consumers with information about vehicle safety. It’s also about encouraging automakers to improve safety and include more cutting-edge safety technologies on their base models, so that increased safety is available to more consumers nationwide. Shoppers can find the ratings on the window stickers of new cars.
