NHTSA on Super Bowl LVI Safety

With fans across America gearing up for the Super Bowl, traffic safety and law enforcement agencies are also gearing up for roadway safety during the big event. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently publicizing their campaign entitled Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk, which is aimed primarily at preventing drunk driving.

Super Bowl LVI is going to be on February 13, 2022, and fans are being urged to make sure their plans include a safe ride home if they’re celebrating with alcohol. Party hosts are also being encouraged to keep an eye on their guests and help to make sure everybody gets home safely.

Making Sure You Have a Safe Ride Home on Super Bowl Sunday

The most important thing you can do on Super Bowl Sunday is make sure you have a safe ride home planned ahead of time. The NHTSA recommends designating a driver, but another popular option is using a ride-sharing app. Even if you do designate a driver, it doesn’t hurt to have a backup plan. If a designated driver changes their plans, you need to be ready. Whatever you do, don’t get behind the wheel. Listed below are some of the NHTSA’s Super Bowl safety tips.

NHTSA Super Bowl Safety Tips

  • Designate a driver.
  • Don’t let friends (or fans) drive drunk.
  • Drivers buckle up, and make sure your passengers are buckled up too.
  • If you’re hosting, ask guests about their safe ride home plans.
  • Encourage guests to pace themselves and serve plenty of nonalcoholic drinks.
  • Never serve alcohol to minors.
