On Wednesday, June 26, the Goleta Police Department conducted a pedestrian safety enforcement operation. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the event was aimed at educating drivers and pedestrians about traffic laws meant to improve safety for vulnerable roadway users like pedestrians. During the operation, police officers were on the lookout for violations made by both drivers and pedestrians that were illegal and dangerous.

Special attention was directed at drivers who failed to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, speeding, making illegal turns and other traffic violations that could be especially risky with pedestrians around. Police officers were also reminding pedestrians and motorists to put their phones down and pay attention to their surroundings. A distracted driver isn’t sharing the road safely with pedestrians and other roadway users.
