On Friday evening, a pedestrian in Encinitas was fatally struck by a car. According to NBC San Diego Channel Seven News, the incident happened just after 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of Encinitas Boulevard and Balour Drive. The pedestrian, 61-year-old Carmen M. Gonzalez, was in a crosswalk when she was struck. Although, very little information has been released, initial reports indicate that one driver yielded to the pedestrian, but a second driver went around the yielding car and struck her.

Gonzalez was rushed to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, but she did not survive her injuries. The driver involved in the crash remained on the scene to cooperate with authorities. This incident is still under investigation with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
