Santa Clara—This Sunday, two cars were street racing on the San Tomas Expressway in Santa Clara. One of the cars, a Chevrolet Camaro, did not see the upcoming traffic and swerved off the road and hit a tree. The driver was traveling at 100 miles per hour. The Mercury News stated, “the driver of the dark blue 2010 Camaro — believed to be a San Jose man in his late 20s — was racing a silver Acura, which fled the scene and has not been located.” The Camaro was pinned between a wall and a tree and caught fire. The driver died on impact, and no one else was injured. However, the debris from the car flew over the wall into neighboring yards. The crash in under investigation, and authorities are searching for the other street racer vehicle involved.
