Teen Cyclist Injured in Santa Barbara

On Tuesday afternoon, a 17-year-old cyclist was seriously injured when a car hit her in the 3800 block of Modoc Road. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened just before 2:00 p.m. The young girl was riding her bicycle home from San Marcos High School when a Hyundai Elantra hit her from behind.

The cyclist was in the bicycle lane at the time of the crash, and the car was apparently traveling at about 40 miles per hour when it struck her. Initially unresponsive, the teen was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, she is recovering from her injuries, which include many abrasions and possibly a fracture. The driver was cited for driving in the bicycle lane.
