On Saturday night in La Mesa, a wrong-way driver was killed after attempting to flee from a head-on collision he’d caused earlier on Interstate 8. According to ABC 10 News and FOX 5 San Diego, the crash occurred around 11:40 pm, when the driver of a Toyota Tundra was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-8 from Fletcher Parkway. The Toyota driver hit a Honda Civic head-on just east of 70th Street. The Honda driver suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The Toyota driver attempted to flee the scene on foot by running across the westbound lanes, where he was then struck and killed by a black Ford F-150 truck. The two occupants of the Ford were not injured. At the time of the report, it was not confirmed if alcohol played a factor in the crash for the wrong-way driver.
