On Saturday night, a man hit and killed an officer and injured another in a suspected DUI crash in San Jose. The incident took place around 9:55 pm in the Monterey Road and Palm Avenue area, according to NBC Bay Area. Two Community Service Officers with the San Jose Police Department were conducting traffic control due to an unrelated vehicle collision. At the same time, a 2022 silver Dodge Charger was traveling southbound on Monterey Road when it drove through a flare pattern and collided with the officers’ parked 2017 white Fusion CSO vehicle. 

One officer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The other officer was taken to the hospital with major, non-life-threatening injuries. The Dodge driver was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
