On Monday morning in Long Beach, a man was killed and another injured when their car crashed into a tree following a police pursuit. According to CBS News, the incident occurred around 2:00 am when CHP officers attempted to pull over a black Lexus ES 300 for allegedly speeding. The driver refused to stop, resulting in a brief chase along the southbound 710 Freeway. The car ended up veering off the 710 Freeway’s transition road to the northbound 405 Freeway, overturning and crashing into a tree.

The driver died at the scene while his passenger sustained moderate injuries. CHP officials stated that the driver was suspected of felony reckless evading, but that drugs or alcohol didn’t appear to be a factor.
