Over the weekend, 11 people were arrested at a DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the checkpoint was conducted at 2400 Grand Avenue, between 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night and 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. This was part of an enhanced enforcement effort for the July 4th holiday weekend.  

There were a total of 2,140 vehicles that went through this particular checkpoint. Of those, 1,014 were screened. There were 21 sobriety tests administered that resulted in 11 vehicles impounded, and 10 people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and one person for drugs. These checkpoints have been proven to help reduce crashes and fatalities caused by driving under the influence, especially during holiday weekends.
