On Tuesday morning, two people died in a head-on crash on Highway 46 in SLO County. According to The San Luis Obispo Tribune, the collision occurred just after midnight, about four miles east of the Cholame “Y.” The driver of a 2020 Hyundai was driving westbound on Highway 46 East when they decided to overtake a tractor-trailer that was traveling in front of them. When the Hyundai driver entered the eastbound lane to try and pass the big rig, they collided head-on with a 2005 Ford F350.

The Ford driver suffered major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Both the driver and passenger in the Hyundai died in the crash. At the time of the report, CHP did not believe that impairment played a role in the crash.
