CHP Providing Safety on Roads This Christmas

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently issued a press release about their upcoming efforts to provide roadway safety across the state this holiday season. Sadly, although the holiday season is usually a happy time for families throughout the nation, it’s also a time of grieving for families who lose loved ones in preventable car crashes each year. There’s always a spike in injury causing and fatal car crashes during the holidays.

In response to this rise in crashes, the CHP is reminding everybody to put safety first and follow the rules of the road this holiday season and all year long. They will be out in full force during their holiday Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP), and they will also be raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of buckling up for every trip.

CHP Maximum Enforcement Period

Last year, at least 38 people were killed in car crashes during the CHP’s holiday MEP. During that 78-hour time period, there were 573 arrests for driving under the influence made by CHP officers across the state.

This year’s MEP will begin at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, December 24 and continue through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, December 26. All available patrol officers will be out on California roadways. They will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and also available to assist motorists and pedestrians who are in trouble.
