CHP’s Grant to Increase Senior Driving Safety in California
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently issued a press release about a federal grant that’s going to help enhance safety for senior drivers in California. According to the CHP, they’ve just received a $225,000 grant for the Keeping Everyone Safe (KEYS) program. This program is geared towards improving senior safety via a free specialized driving course for older drivers. The grant funding for this program is coming from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Age Well, Drive Smart
The Age Well, Drive Smart course was first started in 2008, and it’s aimed at drivers ages 65 years old and older. Senior drivers are encouraged to sign up for the free course, which touches on a variety of important topics. Not only does the course talk about how seniors can improve their driving skills, it also helps by refreshing one’s knowledge of the rules of the road. Finally, seniors also learn how age-related physical changes can impact their driving.
Empowering Senior Drivers and Improving Safety
The CHP wants senior drivers to be empowered with the skills and knowledge they need to stay safe on California roadways. It’s a free class, and it’s approximately two hours long. It is offered at CHP area offices and even at senior centers across the state. If you want to sign up for one of these free classes, contact your local CHP area office for a date, time and location near you.
