City Council members in Compton are hoping to combat street takeovers with a new ordinance. According to KTLA News Channel Five, they voted unanimously in favor of the new ordinance that would increase fines to a minimum of $5,000 for dangerous drivers. Additionally, under the new ordinance, police officers would be able to seize vehicles seen at street takeovers.

Officials report that these street races and takeovers have been increasing in the area and are posing a significant risk to public safety. Last month, four people were shot at the intersection of Central Avenue and Alondra Boulevard, and a vehicle crashed into a bakery. Anybody with information about upcoming takeovers or needing to report suspicious activity is being encouraged to contact the Compton Sheriff’s Office.
