Consumer Alert Jeep Park Outside Recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a Consumer Alert about certain Jeep models due to a fire risk recall. According to the NHTSA, there is a Park Outside recommendation for the Jeep vehicles associated with this recall. These Jeeps can start on fire, even if they’re not turned on. If you own one of these Jeeps, make sure you park it outside until it gets fixed.
2014-2016 Jeep Cherokees Recalled Due to Fire Risk
The Jeep vehicles associated with this recall are 2014-2016 Jeep Cheorkees. Apparently, an electrical short can happen in the power lift gate module that can lead to a fire. This fire can happen with the ignition on or off. That means even if the Jeep is parked and turned off, it could still possibly start a fire. This puts garages, homes and other potentially nearby structures at great risk. At this time, 132,099 vehicles are being recalled.
These vehicles were actually previously repaired in a 2015 recall. Currently, a new remedy is being developed, but is not available to Jeep owners yet. If you have one of these Jeeps, make sure you park it outside and away from structures. Don’t park it in your garage or near your home or other buildings. These vehicles can catch fire whether they’re turned on or off.
