Consumer Alert on Ford and Lincoln Vehicles for a Fire Risk

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a Consumer Alert about certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a fire risk recall. Ford Motor Company is recalling 125,322 model year 2020-2023 Ford Escape, 2022-2023 Ford Maverick and 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair vehicles due to a risk of fire from engine failure. According to the NHTSA, owners should pull over safely and shut their engine down if they hear engine noises, lose power or see or smell smoke.

Under-Hood Fires on Ford and Lincoln Vehicles

The Ford and Lincoln vehicles impacted by this recall have 2.5-liter HEV/PHEV engines that could fail prematurely. If the engine fails, engine oil and/or fuel vapor may be released and can accumulate near ignition sources. This can result in potential under-hood fires, localized melting of components and smoke.

Vehicles Being Impacted by The Ford and Lincoln Engine Fire Recall

  • 86,656 Ford Escapes
  • 35,501 Ford Mavericks
  • 3,165 Lincoln Corsairs

No Remedy Available for Recalled Ford and Lincoln Vehicles Yet

At this time, the remedy for this issue isn’t ready for consumers. The remedy is currently being developed and is hopefully expected to be available in the third quarter of this year. Once the remedy is available, people with these recalled vehicles will be able to get the free repair at their local dealership. Until that time, if you hear weird engine noises, lose power or smell or see smoke, pull over and shut down your engine as swiftly and safely as possible.
