Consumer Alert Park Outside Recall on Lincoln MKC

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a Consumer Alert about an important Park Outside order on recalled Lincoln MKC vehicles due to a risk of fire. According to the press release, this is a new recall issued by Lincoln for 142,734 model year 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC vehicles due to a fire risk. If you own one of these vehicles, you’re being advised to park it outside and away from all structures and vehicles until your vehicle has been repaired.

Defective Battery Monitor Sensor in Lincoln MKC

Apparently, the battery monitor sensor in these vehicles can short-circuit and overheat. This can cause a fire in the engine compartment, and it can happen whether the vehicle is parked and turned off or driving. As of May 15, 2023, Lincoln was aware of 19 potentially related reports of under-hood fires, including 11 that happened in the U.S., seven that happened in China and one that happened in Canada.

Lincoln MKC Fires Can Happen in Parked Vehicles

These fires can happen even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. Lincoln plans to notify owners of the affected vehicles this month. If you have one of these Lincoln MKC vehicles, make sure you park it outside and well away from your home and any other structures until the repair has been completed. Contact your local Lincoln dealership to get the free repair, which is an in-line fuse added to the battery monitor sensor power circuit.

Check Your Vehicle For Recalls Twice a Year

The NHTSA recommends vehicle owners check their vehicles for open recalls at least twice a year. An easy way to remember when to check is to do it when daylight savings changes in the spring and the fall. It only takes a few minutes to check your vehicle. Find the VIN (vehicle identification number) on the dash or on your registration and then plug it into the NHTSA’s VIN Lookup Tool.
