Last week, there was a DUI checkpoint in Escondido. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the checkpoint was conducted on Friday from 6:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Apparently, there was one arrest and 24 citations made. The arrest involved a motorist with an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence. The remaining citations were mostly for unlicensed drivers.

A few of the drivers were cited for having suspended licenses too. The locations of these checkpoints are typically picked based on historical data of high-volume crashes and DUI activities. Enhanced enforcement efforts like DUI checkpoints help to deter motorists from getting behind the wheel drunk and also serve to get impaired drivers off of the roadways.
