Over the weekend, an Escondido police officer was struck by a vehicle while he was working on the shoulder of Interstate 15. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened on Sunday morning, sometime after 10:15 a.m. Initial reports indicate that he was struck and knocked onto the hood of a Ford Focus. He was reportedly directing traffic around a stalled vehicle at the time of the collision.

Apparently, the driver of the Focus was trying to maneuver around the slow traffic by driving on the shoulder when their vehicle struck the officer. Thankfully, the officer’s injuries were not considered life threatening on the scene. The driver was detained by responding officers, but there has been no word on whether or not that person is facing any citations or charges.
