Over the weekend, five people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving at a downtown San Diego checkpoint. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the checkpoint was conducted from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday to 3:00 a.m. on Sunday on the 1500 block of Fifth Avenue. There were reportedly 831 vehicles that went through the checkpoint, and nearly half of them were screened.

Of those that were screened, eight drivers were evaluated. At least two drivers were cited for violations involving their licenses, and five vehicles were impounded. This was just one of the checkpoints going on this month, and it was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Additional upcoming checkpoints are already scheduled in surrounding areas.
