Ford Recalls 1.9 Million Explorers Over Traffic Hazard

Ford is currently recalling 1.9 million Explorer SUVs due to a risk of causing a traffic hazard. According to a recent news report, the recall impacted Ford Explorers from 2011 through 2019. Apparently, a piece of trim can fly off of these vehicles and into the roadway, which can cause a major safety hazard for other drivers. The clips that are supposed to hold the trim that covers the roof supports close to the windshield are defective and can come loose.

The problem was initially investigated last January after 164 complaints were made by consumers. This issue has also impacted Canadian motorists. In the beginning of the investigation, Ford reportedly decided against a recall, due to the low mass of the part. U.S. regulators had a different take and determined the flying debris could be a serious safety hazard. Ford then initiated the recall.

568 Consumer Complaints About Defective Trim Clips on Ford Explorers

According to Ford, they’re only expecting about five percent of the recalled vehicles to actually have the problem. At this time, there are 568 consumer complaints and more than 14,000 warranty reports alleging these parts are missing or detached from vehicles. Thankfully, no major crashes have been reported in association with this defective auto part.
