On Monday morning, a man’s leg was amputated when he was struck by a vehicle in Costa Mesa. According to Patch, the collision happened around 2:30 am on the northbound 55 Freeway, just south of the 405 Freeway. A tow truck driver had stopped to help a disabled car when a black sedan, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed into the driver who was standing outside of the truck.  

The driver of the tow truck suffered major injuries and lost his left leg. At the time of the report, it was believed that alcohol played a role in the crash.
