Multiple OCFA Firefighters Injured After Truck Crash in Irvine
On Thursday night, eight Orange County firefighters were injured in a rollover crash on an Irvine freeway. According to ABC 7, the crash took place around 7:00 pm on the 241 Freeway near the Tomato Springs Toll Plaza. The firefighters were returning from a 12-hour shift battling the Airport Fire when the hand-crew truck hit a guardrail and flipped over. Six firefighters sustained major injuries and two others had minor injuries. Seven of those injured were transported to various hospitals by ambulance while the eighth was taken via helicopter.
Video footage showed the truck laying on its side with debris scattered over the road. The crash was apparently due to a ladder that was in lanes on the 241. The truck swerved to avoid the ladder, colliding with the guardrail on the right shoulder and overturning.
