NHTSA Consumer Alert on Hyundai and Kia Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a press release about a Consumer Alert regarding certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles. Apparently, 3.3 million vehicles are being recalled with a “Park Outside” alert. The vehicles associated with this recall, Hyundai Motor America and Kia America are urging owners to park their vehicles outside due to a fire risk.

Several year models from both automakers are being recalled due to a risk of fire. Apparently, a fire can even occur when a vehicle is parked and turned off, so it’s not safe to park these recalled vehicles in garages or close to home and structures.

Defective Anti-Lock Brake System Module

The recall has been issued, because these vehicles’ anti-lock brake system modules can leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short. This can result in significant overcurrent in the ABS module, which can increase the risk of an engine compartment fire when driving or parked.  Listed below are the vehicles currently being impacted by this Park Outside recall.
