On Cinco De Mayo, an off-duty Escondido police officer was struck by a vehicle. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened at about 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Escondido Boulevard and West Lincoln Avenue. Initial reports indicate that a man was reported as down in the middle of the intersection and bleeding.  

Apparently, there was some kind of disturbance in the roadway prior to the collision. Paramedics rushed the injured pedestrian to the Palomar Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. At the time of the news report, the driver of the car was listed as a non-sworn civilian employee of the police department. No information has been released on whether or not that person is facing any citations or charges associated with the collision.
