On Sunday night, a pedestrian was struck and killed in a single-car crash near downtown San Diego. The incident took place around 9:10 pm at the off-ramp to Imperial Avenue off of southbound I-5. A Kia Soul crashed into a cement barrier and went down an embankment, where it hit a large electrical box. The box then hit a pedestrian on the side of the off-ramp. The victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kia driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The Imperial Avenue off-ramp and Cesar Chavez Pkwy were closed for several hours during the investigation.
