On Tuesday morning around 5 am, a man died after being struck by a car on the southbound side of Interstate 5, north of Imperial Avenue. The man was walking on the freeway when the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta hit him, according to Fox 5 San Diego. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Three lanes were closed temporarily while the investigation was ongoing. Authorities said the driver of the Jetta was not impaired, and that he remained at the scene and was cooperative. A toxicology report was pending at the time of the report to ascertain if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
