Tesla Model S and Model X Recall for Seat Belt Issue

Popular electric vehicle automaker Tesla is currently recalling about 16,000 of their 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles. Apparently, some front-row seat belts may not have been reconnected properly after being repaired. According to a recent report, first-row seat belts were disconnected from their pretensioner anchors as part of a necessary step to perform a repair. After this repair, the seat belts may not have been properly reconnected to their pretensioner anchors.

Seat Belts Not Properly Connected in Recalled Teslas

If seat belts weren’t properly reconnected, they may not perform up to standard in the event of a crash. This puts passenger occupants at an increased risk for injuries and death. Safety investigators have been looking into possible seat belt issues in Tesla vehicles since March of this year, and as of June 19, there were 12 warranty claims identified as being related to the seat belt issue. Tesla reports that they’re not aware of any crashes, injuries or deaths that are related though.

At this time, Tesla is preparing to send out letters to impacted vehicle owners. Tesla will perform free inspections and properly connect front-row seat belts to their pretensioners if needed. If technicians are unable to properly connect the seat belts, the seat belt assembly will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Tesla Recall Involving Defective Cameras

Additionally, Tesla is currently recalling over 1,300 2023 Model S, Model X and Model Y vehicles due to a camera issue. The cameras in these vehicles have a pitch angle issue on their forward-facing camera that can cause certain active safety features to be unavailable. The features that are impacted by this recall include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane keeping assist.

Furthermore, these features could be unavailable to drivers, and drivers would not even be alerted to the issue. If drivers think they have these safety features on board, when they actually don’t, they’re being put at an increased risk of injury causing or potentially fatal crashes.
