Earlier this week, a truck driver was killed by cargo from his own truck in an apparent one-vehicle incident on Interstate Eight. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident, which happened on Tuesday afternoon near Alpine, took the life of a tractor-trailer driver who was headed east through Harbison Canyon. For currently unknown reasons, the truck driver may have braked abruptly about a half-mile west of Dunbar Lane.

When the truck decelerated, the steel sheet pile cargo slid forward across the flatbed trailer and smashed into the truck’s cab. The large heavy-duty steel pieces slammed into the driver and killed him. Although this appears to have been a one-vehicle crash, the incident is likely still under investigation with local law enforcement officials.
