11 Arrests Made at Downtown DUI Checkpoint
Last Friday night, the San Diego Police Department, in partnership with the California Highway Patrol, conducted a DUI checkpoint in the downtown area. Between the hours of 11:00 p.m. on Friday night and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, 11 arrests were made. The checkpoint was conducted on the 1500 block of Fifth Avenue close to Beech Street.
According to ABC Channel 10 News, a total of 652 vehicles were screened of the 932 that passed through the checkpoint. In addition to the suspected DUI arrests, one citation was written for driving on a suspended license. This checkpoint was conducted as part of the continuing efforts of the California Highway Patrol and San Diego Police Department to reduce drunken driving related fatalities and injuries.
