Car Accident Attorneys in California
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently issued a press release about a federal grant they’ve received to target speed, aggressive driving and street racing. According to the CHP, speed and aggressive driving are the main causes of traffic crashes in the State of California. Their new grant “Regulate Aggressive Driving and Reduce Speed II” (RADARS II) will help to promote awareness about the dangers of aggressive driving. Additionally, it will also allow for increased enforcement of aggressive driving laws. The goal of this grant is to have a five percent reduction in the number of fatal and injury-causing crashes caused by speed, improper turning and driving on the wrong side of the road. Additionally, there will be a special focus on street racing and sideshows.
Crashes Caused by Speeding in California
- Speed is the number one cause of traffic crashes in California.
- In the federal fiscal year 2014-2015, speed was a factor in approximately 43 percent of all fatal and injury crashes in the state.
- During that time, there were over 29,644 speed-related crashes in California.
- Those wrecks resulted in nearly 290 fatalities and over 43,464 injuries.
Dangerous and Aggressive Driving Behaviors
While we might think of acts of road rage as aggressive driving, there are a lot of behaviors that fall short of full-blown road rage incidents that can be considered aggressive behind the wheel. Speeding, tailgating, improper turning, cutting off other drivers, racing, and boxing other vehicles in or out of lanes are all types of aggressive and dangerous driving. Any of these behaviors behind the wheel can increase a person’s chance of causing a potentially fatal crash.
Speeding and Aggressive Driving in San Diego
Crashes that are caused by speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are completely preventable. When drivers exceed the posted speed limit, make improper turns, tailgate or engage in any other kind of aggressive driving behaviors, they’re putting their own lives and the lives of others at great risk for injury causing or potentially fatal car crashes.
