70 Drivers Ticketed in Santa Barbara Pedestrian Safety Sting
Last week, 70 drivers in Santa Barbara were stopped and ticketed during a sting operation to increase pedestrian safety. Problem locations were targeted after numerous calls were made about drivers ignoring pedestrians at dangerous intersections. At State Street and Calle Palo Colorado, 42 citations were written.
Two city employees were used as decoys in this operation. Sergeant Mike McGrew, with the Santa Barbara Police Department, stated that many of the people he pulled over said that they didn’t even see the pedestrian in the crosswalk, even when they were about three feet away from the person.
KEYT News Channel Three reports that at least one of these targeted intersections will soon have new crossing lights to increase pedestrian safety.
