Additional Funding for DUI Task Force in Santa Barbara

Additional funding has been made available for 12 law enforcement agencies including the Santa Barbara Police Department. The agencies have received a $130,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. KEYT News Channel Three reports that the grant money will be used on a variety of different operations in efforts to reduce the number of drunk drivers on California roadways.

Various DUI task force operations will include publicized checkpoints and advertising campaigns in addition to operations that target repeat DUI offenders. KEYT reports that when publicized checkpoints are conducted frequently, crashes involving drunken drivers can drop by up to 20 percent. At least 40 counties in California are currently publicizing anti-drunk driving campaigns related to this grant.
