On Thursday, a cyclist was hit and killed on State Route 76 in Oceanside. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 13, the incident happened just before 11:00 a.m., east of Melrose Drive. The cyclist was reportedly in the bike lane when struck by a 2001 Honda Accord. Initial reports indicate that the driver was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and driving on a suspended license.

All westbound lanes of SR-76 had to be closed as first responders and crews worked the scene. Although the cyclist was rushed to Palomar Hospital for treatment, that person did not survive their injuries. This crash is still under investigation with local law enforcement authorities, and anybody with information about the incident is being asked to call the Oceanside Police Department.
