Over the weekend, a deflated tire on a semi truck caused an injury wreck on Interstate 805. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened sometime after 11:00 a.m., just north of Interstate 8. The tire on a big rig rapidly deflated causing the large vehicle to swerve into a smaller passenger occupant car. The truck’s tires actually drove on top of the 2008 Mazda Miata convertible.

The driver in the Miata was trapped when first responders arrived on the scene. She and her eight-year-old passenger were transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital for the treatment of their injuries. Thankfully, they are expected to make full recoveries. A hazardous materials response team was also called to the scene due to a fuel spill. This wreck is likely still under investigation to determine if any negligence contributed to the rapid deflation of the truck tire.
