Another Caltrans Worker Struck on the Road

Earlier this week, a contractor with Caltrans was struck and injured by a suspected distracted driver on Interstate 80. According to CBS Sacramento News Channel 13, the contractor was in a Caltrans van at the time of the crash. The wreck reportedly happened at about 11:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80 near the Manual Campos Parkway in Solano County. Very few details about this apparent case of distracted driving have been released, but we do know that a Ford pickup truck struck the Caltrans vehicle.

At the time of the crash, the Caltrans contractor crew was working on a freeway cleanup project in the area. One of the contractors had to be rushed to a local hospital for treatment of major injuries, and another one also suffered from minor injuries. These contractors were working with Caltrans as part of the Veterans Outreach Program. There has been no word on either person’s current condition or on the full extent of their injuries.

Distracted Driving Crashes on I-80

Officials with the California Highway Patrol are looking into distraction as a possible factor in this crash. Sadly, this wreck happened only about a week after a suspected distracted driver took the life of a CHP officer during a recent traffic stop. That wreck happened on I-80 near Fairfield.
