Roadway Improvements in San Diego
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) just issued a press release about their local partnership program in the San Diego area. Thanks to a grant funded through the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB1), statewide transportation projects have been approved and are moving forward to increase safety and efficacy of roadways in California. Listed below are a few of the upcoming District 11 (San Diego and Imperial Counties) projects.
Caltrans Projects Around San Diego
- North Oceanside Double Track- $2 million to design 0.6 miles of double track, a new bridge and new signals between Harbor Drive and Surfrider Way in Oceanside.
- Batiquitos Lagoon Double Track- $10.7 million to construct 0.8 miles of double-track and a new bridge over Batiquitos Lagoon.
- San Dieguito Double Track- $3.5 million to complete the design of a 2.1 miles segment of double track and the replacement of the San Dieguito Bridge.
- Rail Signals- $1.7 million to complete the design of rail signals at key locations along LOSSAN corridor within San Diego County.
Statewide Projects to Improve and Maintain California Roadways
In addition to local partnership projects in San Diego County, Caltrans will be planning and implementing various projects throughout the State of California. Portions of I-5 will be improved and maintained. Bicycle and pedestrian transportation improvements will be made in various counties across the state. Projects will also address issues like median landscape and maintenance on a variety of different busy roadways. Current issues associated with safety and maintenance will fall into the “fix-it-first” category.
