The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently issued a press release about their upcoming efforts to improve safety and mobility of the railway system across the state. According to Caltrans, the funding for these improvements is coming from an $11.3 million grant from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement (CRISI) program. This grant is primarily aimed at deploying Positive Train Control (PTC), which is an advanced safety system designed to automatically stop a train before potential train-on-train, speed-related and signal-related incident occur.
