Car Crashes into Power Pole in College Area

Over the weekend, a car crashed into a power pole in the College Area. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the wreck, which happened on the 4700 block of 54th Street, left nearly 2,000 homes without power. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to hitting a tree and the power pole. Apparently, the driver blasted through several red lights as well.

There was a San Diego Police helicopter following the vehicle, and patrol cars were also called to the scene of the crash. The driver got out of the wreckage and fled on foot, but law enforcement officers apprehended him a little while later. Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in this crash, and no serious injuries were reported on the scene.
