Car Accident in Santa Barbara

On Sunday morning, a car struck a fire hydrant at a downtown Santa Barbara intersection. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the wreck happened at State Street and Carrillo Street at about 6:30 a.m. Initial reports indicate that the Mazda sedan completely sheared off the fire hydrant from its base. A large water stream was sent into the air. The occupants of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene.

A traffic signal was also knocked down during the wreck, and it took public works personnel about 25 minutes to get the water shut off in the area. Additionally, there was some flooding to local businesses in the immediate vicinity. Officials are still trying to figure out how the wreck happened, and the incident is still under investigation.
