On Tuesday afternoon, a car slammed into a building on Chapala Street in downtown Santa Barbara. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the incident happened as the driver was exiting a parking garage at about 4:15 p.m. In a case of apparent pedal confusion, the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake when preparing to leave the parking garage.

The car zoomed across the street and crashed into the restroom of the strip mall. Another vehicle was struck during the crash. Both drivers were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of injuries. The building was also damaged in the crash. No information has been released on whether or not any citations have been issued. This incident could still be under investigation with local law enforcement officials.
